Counts come from approved submissions. Each record is one tested person, placed at the home of their earliest known paternal ancestor — not where they live now.
Haplogroups are submitted freeform, so the same lineage can arrive written several ways — J1 (J-M267), J1-M267 or simply J1. The grouping control rolls those together: 'Main group' counts every J lineage as one, 'Subclade' separates J1 from J2 and R1a from R1b, and 'As submitted' shows the exact strings with no merging.
